Introduction to Arthritis

Arthritis is a common condition, especially among older Australians, and is a major contributor to illness, pain, and disability across the country. According to the ABS National Health Survey 2017-18, Arthritis affects 3.6 million Australians amounting to 1 out of 7 people nationwide.

There are many therapies and medications that can help those who live with Arthritis to manage their illness and live full lives, but some people require additional support to fully participate in their lives and their community. Thankfully, there are ample support services available to ensure that people who live with Arthritis don’t have to sacrifice their quality of life.

Arthritis Information

While most people associate arthritis with growing old, it actually can affect people of any age. As we age, our bones and the joints between them undergo wear and tear that reflects the lifetime of stress placed on them. When that stress progresses to the point that we have pain or inflammation in our joints, that is called Arthritis.

Common types of Arthritis include osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and gout, but arthritis can also be caused by many autoimmune diseases, genetic disorders, or even infection. People who suffer from arthritis experience inflammatory issues affecting the bones, muscles, and joints resulting in pain, stiffness, swelling, and redness.

Is Arthritis Covered by the NDIS?

Yes! If you suffer from Arthritis, it is covered under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and you may be eligible for their funding to use for our support services. The eligibility and level of funding will depend on the severity of your functional disability and needs. Most types of Arthritis are categorised under List B for NDIS funding. It may require further functional assessment prior to being approved for NDIS funding.

At Maple, we can assist you in the assessment process to see if you or your loved one qualifies for NDIS Arthritis Benefits. If you or your loved one meets the criteria, we have the capacity to provide comprehensive services to enhance your quality of life.
